The “I will..” mindset

There are some like this…

1 Kings 1:5 (CSB) 5 Adonijah son of Haggith kept exalting himself, saying, “I will be king! ” He prepared chariots, cavalry, and fifty men to run ahead of him.

In this story, this person Adonijah try’s to make himself king. Look at what he said, “I will be king”. In our life, that is the whole nature of our being. Inside ourself there is a voice and a drive that says that same thing….”I will ….” do this or “I will…do that” What is wrong is not desiring to do something, unless that something is evil in nature. What is wrong is that we can’t claim anything or do anything apart from God.

Do I do this? Do I say, “I will do this” without first consulting the Lord first?

Jesus taught to deny yourself.

Luke 9:23-26 (CSB) 23 Then he said to them all, “If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me. 24 “For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of me will save it. 25 “For what does it benefit someone if he gains the whole world, and yet loses or forfeits himself? 26 “For whoever is ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his glory and that of the Father and the holy angels.

So what is so wrong with ourself? Why would Jesus say to deny yourself? Because our natural human mind and body are only thinking of how to keep myself feeling happy and good. The natural self is only concerned with making yourself look good in front of others. The natural self only cares about about who? You guess it. You. You only care about You. This is what is wrong.

What happens when we see something hurting? We don’t care.

What happens when we see something happy and we are not? We are envious.

What happens when we see the other people in life prosper but we are not? We become jealous.

What happens when there is too much good happening to you? We forget who gave us the good blessings *God gave us our blessings*

The list goes on and on. In schools, children have to be taught what is good by the teachers that are caring for them.

  1. Do not hit other kids.
  2. Share the toys.
  3. Listen to the teacher.
  4. Pay attention.
  5. Wash your hands.
  6. Do this or do that.

You got the point right?

As adults, we think we are so smart. We reason within ourselves.”I know this” or “Oh, I already know that” and then you try to over explain a detail to another to make yourself seem more intelligent than the other.

There are many things “Wrong” with us naturally. We have teachers in our life. But not all the teachers are true teachers. Meaning that they themselves have teachers and even if they do not claim to have a teacher, they have their own conscience and understanding to guide them and that is like a teacher. Like an atheist who doesn’t believe in God, but believes in himself or herself. …in reality the self of the atheist is the ‘god’ that they serve. So really everyone believes in a type of Higher Power, or God

The Holy Bible was written for our benefit. It claims to be the very Words of God, read the story of the Ten Commandments, it says many times, “The Lord says…” and it’s God actually speaking. God still speaks today still. He has given us His Word to speak to us. He speaks in our live in many ways.

Inside, we know what is right. But we are rebels. Oh God please help us. Only Jesus is the true. Only God’s Word is true. Even if you are reading this post. Just go back and read the Bible only and ask God how you should live.

You and I are not god. God alone is God.
